There are no fewer than six billfish species in the Pemba Channel in Zanzibar north of Nungwi, and your chances of catching at least three different species in one season are really good. In addition to Billfish, there are giant sharks (mako, tiger, thresher and hammerhead, just to name a few), tuna fishing, big wahoo, mackerel, dorado, barracuda and the size of the giant trevallies and many others.
In the peak season of Marlins, the Billfish go to the coast to feed on tuna, making the north of Zanzibar very interesting for enthusiastic anglers. These fish have inexhaustible displays of strength and the chance to get your personal best is very good.
Our seasons are mainly from August to October during the tuna season and then the billfish season from November to March for marlin and sailfish. Between the two, the game fish are still there. Large tuna can weigh up to 100 kg, many schools of tuna still migrating through the waters. The tuna is followed by the great marlin. Our main season for striped marlin is from December to March, while from September to December large black and blue marlin is fished.
